District Governor Selwyn was born and brought up in Westcliff-on-sea on the Thames estuary in Essex. He married Cookie in 1978 and they have lived in Stanmore for over 40 years. They have three children; and to date there are 4 grandchildren. Selwyn qualified and worked as an accountant in industry and the profession before retiring last year.
He joined The Rotary Club of Edgware and Stanmore in 2009 and very soon took over the Treasurer role at the Club. He became President in 2012 and started working on District matters first as Assistant Treasurer and then as District Treasurer in 2015. At his Club Selwyn has been responsible for a number of projects. Most notable recently, he recruited a dozen people with sewing machines to make 200 scrub sets from donated material for local hospices during the Personal Protective Equipment crisis at the start of the pandemic.
He enjoys singing in choirs, writing, playing golf and still supports his beloved, though hapless Southend United! As a young boy Selwyn expirienced a broken home and was reliant on food andf clothes handouts for a time in his early teenage years. This became his motivation for a lifelong interest in helping those unable to help themselves.
